If The iPhone Wasn't Already Tempting Enough
Just when you thought the iPhone couldn't get any better, old Jobs has done it again by slashing the price even further from $399(old) right down to $199(8GB) and $299(16GB). This should give everyone that isn't living in a cave a real nudge to get one.
Also expect the launch of the App Store for the iPhone applications, a iPhone 2.0 upgrade and the revamp of .Mac to MobileMe.
One of the more interesting features of the new 3G iPhone is the addition of a full fledge GPS receiver. Unlike earlier models that relied on Assisted-GPS through cellphone bases, the new one is a dedicated receiver similar to the ones used in car GPSes.
This introduces a new wave of location services software to track everything from friends to business. Loopt was demoed at the conference showing how you how you could find your friends around you and read their twitter like messages.
Jobs further elaboration his vision for a mobile world by launching the new MobileMe platform. Like it's name mentions, mobile will begin to play a more integral role for future apple software and services.
Like the .mac that it replaces, MobileMe will connect your favourite iLife software with your iPhone. Any emails, calendar, photos, documents, contacts will be synced to your phone.
At me.com, you'll find an Os X like minimalist design with the latest Web 2.0 application like interface to access your files.
You can opt to subscribe to MobileMe iDisk, it's like having your own hard disk on the internet, and allows you to access your files online anytime. Simply install the iDisk application and drag and drop your files directly from your finder. If you need to send a file from your iDisk, iDisk can send an email link to your friend and you'll no longer have to worry about emailing the large file.
